A Future Earth

The Knights live in our universe, our Earth. But a post earth a few million years in the future where humans are gone--pushed to extinction when resources ran too low to keep the population going. The Earth has recovered from most of the damage done to it from humans, and new species have flourished in the meantime.

If you are familiar–think similar to the earth that the Space Brothers from Pikmin land on–and where they find these Pikmin

From Snails to Knights

Before, they were just simple snails; small and fitting in the palm of the hands of humans. Over the years, after humans were wiped out, the snails had to get more creative to be able to maintain their squishy body against predators. They were not the only beings that became more intelligent and larger over the years. Many armor pieces and helmets are found and put together based on common materials that the humans left behind. Depending where in the world the snail was born would also greatly affect the traits they would be born with. Some traits even came to be over the years of crossbreeding between different groups.

Community & Survival

Nowadays they either live on their own with their communities, directly have conflict with other communities, or are picked to guard the Wings. A bird/aquatic species that search for willing guards to their palace or as members of their armies. This anthro species has a treaty with the Knights and oftentimes gives them rarer materials for their armor in return for the warriors they remove from their communities.

The Wings and Khan

The Wings and the Knights met on the battlefield and discovered they had a common oppressor–the reptile species of Khan. These feral beings eat anthro and other feral beings indiscriminately. Together, they found that they were able to push them back far enough out of their (now shared) territory. With this newfound safety, the Knights moved around the world to find new areas to live in and settle. Now they live all over the world, as do the Wings, and continue to grow communities to this day.
